Why agreement should come before payment

Money moving into an account does not explain why it arrived.

The agreement does.

Privatepreneur prefers a simple sequence:

Settle the agreement → record acceptance → carry out the agreed compensation and performance terms → preserve the records.

The agreement identifies what each of you has chosen before compensation is provided. Record acceptance of those terms, then follow the timing you agreed for compensation and performance. Compensation may be upfront or otherwise arranged; performance does not always come before it. Keep accurate records as the relationship proceeds.

Payment is evidence, not the whole story

A bank statement can show that money arrived.

It cannot tell you, by itself, what agreement applied, what work was performed, what capacity was used, what the payment represented, or what responsibilities were attached.

Agreement creates context

A clear agreement connects compensation to the work, property, access, membership, or other value being exchanged.

Then performance and records support the same story.

Payment should not be used as a gate shortcut

In Privatepreneur’s standalone Private Agreement service, payment never satisfies a readiness gate.

If the arrangement is unclear, paying does not make it clear. If facts are missing, payment does not supply them.

The practical goal

The goal is a clean evidence chain.

The agreement explains the relationship, the recorded acceptance shows what was chosen, performance and compensation show what happened, and the records preserve the connection between them.
