Why a bank account does not define the exchange
A bank account can show that money arrived.
It cannot, by itself, tell you why.
That’s the difference between a payment container and the relationship behind the payment.
What the account can show
An account record may establish:
- the amount
- the date
- the sender or payment source
- the receiving account
- transaction references
- sometimes a memo or processor description
Those facts can be useful.
But they do not explain the entire exchange.
What the account cannot establish by itself
The account alone does not establish:
- the agreement
- the capacity of the parties
- what work or property was exchanged
- what was delivered
- whether membership was genuine
- whether a public or statutory relationship existed
- what responsibilities each side accepted
Those facts come from the broader evidence chain.
Personal account versus entity account
The same principle works both ways.
Using a personal account does not automatically prove a private relationship.
Using an entity account does not automatically determine every underlying relationship.
The account itself may introduce additional terms or capacities that need to be understood, but it does not replace the agreement.
Payment processors work the same way
Stripe, PayPal, Square, ACH providers, wallets, and other rails are also containers and intermediaries.
They create records and impose terms.
They can affect the evidence.
They do not become the source of the underlying work merely because they carry the payment.
Follow the payment backward
When an amount arrives, ask:
What caused this payment to be made?
What relationship existed?
What did the men and women involved agree to?
What value moved?
What public tools were used?
What records connect the amount to the activity?
That’s a better way to understand the exchange.
